Chris Coffman- Beginner's Flame Work Bead-making

This class gives the "never-ever" a good first time overview of flame work glass bead-making.  We provide and include all tools and other necessities, such as protective glasses, mandrels, kiln annealing, etc., only glass is extra. This is the best class around to give you a fun, informative "try it and see if you like it" experience with little extra expense.  Chris Coffman is the immediate past president of our ISGB chapter, The Jersey Fire Devils.

Jeri Warhaftig- Hearts and Hollows Two Day Workshop
Saturday, February 16, 10:30 - 5:30 pm and/or Sunday, February 17, 10:30 - 4:30 pm
Cost: $195 per day + glass or both for $375 (save $15)

This one or two day class will approach both hollow beads and sculptural forms, such as hearts, vessels and  shells, in both hollow and solid masses of glass. 

Day 1:  Techniques include  blowing hollow beads using the puffy mandrel, and shaping the hollows into  squares, hearts and other shapes.   Time permitting:  Learn to blow small vessels at  the end of blow pipes. 

Day 2:  Techniques include making an off-mandrel pendant heart (which hangs from lace twistie), a heart suitable for a bail or for stringing vertically, and traditional hearts with horizontal holes.   Time permitting:  Learn to blow hollow forms for sea shells.

Students who take this class should have prior experience on the torch, a love of glass, and a sense of adventure!

Please note:  This workshop is structured so that you may take one or both days.  If you pay for both days at the time of registration, you will save $15 off the total price of enrolling separately in each day.

Tina Wiltsee- Fused Glass "A Step Up" Two Session Workshop
Saturday, February 23, 1:00 - 4:00 pm and
Sunday, February 24, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Cost: $85 + $30 kit

Learn advanced techniques and enhance your skills, while creating 3 pendant-sized dichroic glass cabochons.  Pre-requisite:  Basic Fused Dichroic Glass Techniques.

First session:  Creating the cabochon pieces.  Pieces will be fired in Jubili’s Paragon kiln to 1500 degrees, and be ready for further refinement on the second day.

Second session:  Using advanced techniques to customize your pieces. 

Techniques covered include: 
1.   Blocking:  to form a channel in the piece for a cord or chain
2.   Grinding:  to obtain the desired shape
3.   Drilling: into the glass, and incorporating inclusions in the glass

This workshop is a great opportunity to learn advanced glass fusing techniques, without making a large investment.  Jubili’s kiln can be rented for firing your future pieces.  Ask the Jubili staff for more information.

Jim Smircich- Principles of Heating Glass Three Day Workshop

Jubili is thrilled to be offering you a rare, (and quite possibly the last) East Coast workshop by the internationally recognized flame worker, Jim Smircich!  Best known for his expertise in heat and its effect on glass, Jim has produced some of the most popular instructional videos available.  We have heard many times from other flame workers that his workshop was one of, if not THE most practically useful technical class they had ever taken!

The 3 day workshop covers the principles of heat & its effect on glass, giving you a much more in-depth understanding of the science behind the craft. You will be empowered with a remarkably enhanced control over your work, and excited when you see the difference in your bead quality and productivity!

This workshop must be taken in its entirety, as no single days are available. You will enjoy considerable one-on-one attention throughout the 3 days.

Diane Worthington- Glass Bead Three Session Workshop

This series of 3 classes is a great way to progressively build on your bead-making skills!

Techniques covered include the following:
1. How to make a truly round bead well!
2. Making beads of varying shapes
3. Using frits
4. Using silver foil and leaf
5. Dot spacing, polka dots
6. Encasing

The classes are tailored to address specific questions in any of these or other areas of glass bead-making, and will get you closer to perfecting your bead-making skills.  Diane is happy to accept first-time beginners in her classes unless otherwise specified.

Elizabeth Hopkins- Making Complex Beads With Twisties

We’ll spend the day making simple and complex twisted canes and then use different techniques to decorate beads with the canes to produce many different looks.  Techniques will include: encasing, twisting, dots, and shaping beads.
