Improve Your Skills with Jubili's Glass & Metal "OPEN STUDIO" rental

Besides formal classes, we also offer rental of the studio for "Open Studio", so that you can practice what you've learned and improve your bead-making and metal smithing skills.  In some cases, it's also much less of a monetary investment to take advantage of our state-of-the-art studio than to make yourself one at home.  Our studio is 2 hour fire-rated, has excellent ventilation and lighting, uses low pressure, natural gas and oxygen set-ups, and has a fire-retardant table, a gas kill-switch, and a fire extinguisher for your extra-added safety.

Flame work glass bead-making and metal smithing/soldering are wonderful, fun hobbies, but they do both include some inherent potential safety risks.  For this reason, we insist upon good safety practices, proper behavior, and other house rules.  We reserve the right to remove or refuse participation of those who disregard house/safety rules that endanger themselves, and/or others enrolled with them.

Open Studio sessions may be pre-scheduled and listed in our bi-monthly class schedule, or may be scheduled by anyone interested in using the studio for a specific date and time.  You must reserve the room at least 2 days before the expected date.  You cannot sign up for both glass bead-making and soldering Open Studios in the same session.

Open Studio can be enjoyed by those of you who have had at least 7-8 hours of flame work or soldering torch time, either at Jubili or elsewhere.  We require this minimum number of hours since most professionals will tell you that it takes about 8 hours of formal teaching time for a new artisan to be comfortable alone with the torches and basic flame-related processes.

We therefore are happy to offer the option of Chaperoned Open Studio, for those of you eager to start working after your first 4 hour class.  Chaperoned open studio is not for formal class training, but rather to ensure that a Jubili staff person, experienced with the room, torches, and supplies, is present for your safety and to refresh your skills in those regards.  Following this, if you have achieved a good level of comfort working with the flame and respect the safety and clean-up rules, you may participate in non-chaperoned Open Studio sessions.  The fee schedule and sign-up requirements for Open Studios are as follows:

Flame work Open Studio
